    Early Warning Signs of Teen Dating Violence

Are you going out with someone who...

  • Is jealous and possessive, preventing you from hanging out with your friends, or checking up on you when you are with other people?
  • Tries to control you by giving orders, making all the decisions, and forcing their opinions?
  • Scares you, threatens you, or uses weapons, so that you worry about how they will react to things you say or do?
  • Is violent, and has a history of fighting, losing their temper quickly, or bragging about mistreating others?
  • Treats you like a sex object.Pressures you for sex by manipulation or guilt trips, saying, “if you really loved me…"?
  • Abuses drugs and alcohol and urges you to do the same?
  • Gets seriously involved in the relationship too quickly?
  • Blames you for their behavior, saying you provoke them or make them treat you badly?
  • Has a history of bad relationships, blaming everyone else for their problems?
  • Believes that they should be in control, and that you should be passive and submissive?
  • Makes you afraid to end the relationship because you don’t know what they will do?
