  • We provide crisis intervention and legal advocacy, supportive services, criminal justice support, personal advocacy, crime victim compensation applications/assistance, aftercare services and other advocacy to victims of sexual assault and or domestic violence.
  • We make referrals to other community professionals
  • We provide information on other community resources and assist in accessing these resources
  • We assist in locating alternative housing
  • We conduct weekly Peer Support Groups

 

 

Community Outreach

  • Provide direct advocacy and crisis intervention services to people in Forest, Oneida and Vilas Counties
  • Work with schools to provide preventative and awareness building educational programs to students.
  • Present educational programs to community and civic organizations to increase awareness of child abuse, incest, domestic abuse, harassment, etc.
  • Conduct trainings for educators, health care workers, mental health providers, law enforcement, and other community professionals regarding the issues of domestic and sexual abuse.
  • Work with other community professionals to establish and maintain an effective referral network.
  • Maintain visible presence in our communities, working to affect change in attitudes that condone domestic and sexual abuse.
  • Network with State Coalitions for up-to-date resources.

Shelter Programs

  • We have 5 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 16 individuals.
  • We provide food and personal items such as diapers, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.
  • We often have children and provide cribs and baby supplies.
  • Our shelter operates 24 hours/day, 365 days/year.
  • In 2001, we served 39 adults and 36 children for a total of 1376 nights of shelter.
  • In 2000, we provided 995 nights of shelter.
  • In 1999, we provided 668 nights of shelter.

Addendum: Definitions

Advocacy:
Acting on behalf of and in support of victims/survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic abuse to ensure their interests are represented and their rights upheld, including legal and medical advocacy

Supportive Services: An ongoing process of identifying and providing options; skill development; i.e., coping strategies, relaxation techniques, etc; and education, support and guidance
